This policy explains what this site does and does not collect. The short version: your passport dates never leave your browser, and the only things that could identify you are the advertising and measurement cookies you have to agree to first.
Your passport details
The checker runs entirely in your browser. The issue date, expiry date and destination you enter are processed by JavaScript on your own device and are never sent to a server, stored, logged or shared. There is no account, no sign-in and no database of passport dates, because none of that information ever arrives anywhere it could be kept.
Anything you choose to save, such as an upcoming trip or another family member's dates, is written to your browser's local storage. That is a store on your own device. It is not transmitted, and it can be cleared at any time using your browser's clear site data function.
Cookies and similar storage
Three kinds of storage are in use on this site.
- Your own saved data, in local storage, as described above. It stays on your device.
- Your consent choice, in local storage, so you are not asked the same question on every page.
- Advertising and measurement cookies, set by Google, and only if you agree to them.
Nothing in the second or third category is strictly necessary, so nothing is set until you say yes. Until then, measurement runs without cookies and cannot recognise you between visits, and advertising signals stay switched off.
You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer of every page.
Measurement
This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages get used, so that the ones worth maintaining can be identified. It runs behind the consent choice described above: until you agree, it is loaded with analytics storage denied, which means no cookie is set and visits cannot be linked to each other or to you.
No passport data is ever passed to Google Analytics or to anything else. The measurement sees pages, not the contents of the tool.
Advertising
This site carries advertising through Google AdSense, which is what pays for it. Google may use cookies to serve advertisements based on your previous visits to this and other sites, and it does so only where you have agreed. You can review and change advertising personalisation in Google's own advertising settings, which apply across every site that uses its advertising, not only this one.
Server logs
The site is served from Cloudflare's network. As with any website, requests reach infrastructure that processes them in order to deliver the page, and that infrastructure handles technical information such as IP addresses for security and delivery purposes. This is the ordinary operation of hosting rather than something this site collects, uses or has access to for its own purposes.
Your rights
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time.
In practice there is very little to exercise those rights against here, because no personal data is collected on a server. Withdrawing consent is immediate and is done through the cookie settings link. Deleting what is stored on your device is done by clearing your browser's site data. If you want to make a request anyway, email [email protected] and it will be answered within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with the response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. The checker can of course be used to check a child's passport, and as with every other use, those dates stay in the browser of whoever entered them.
Links to other sites
This site links to external sites, principally GOV.UK and the European Union's own travel pages, because they are the authoritative sources for what it describes. Those sites have their own privacy policies and this one does not cover them.
Changes
This policy may be updated. The date at the top shows when it last changed, and any change applies from that date.
